Graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Guelph (Canada) in 1988, in 1989 an internship at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada). In 1990, he entered the residency in ophthalmology at the University of Guelph, from which he graduated in 1994 and became a student of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Since 2004, Joe Volfer is a member of the ACVO Public Relations Committee and a member of the American Vitreoretinal Society. Dr. Volfer has authored chapters in the most famous veterinary textbooks: Gelatt KN “Veterinary Ophthalmology” 4-5th edition, Peiffer RL, Peterson-Jones SM, eds. “Small Animal Ophthalmology: A Problem Oriented Approach” 2nd edition, more than 30 refereed publications in ophthalmologic journals. Laureat of Caledon Hills Kennel Club bursary for Ophthalmology. Invited speaker at US and international veterinary and medical congresses.

Dr. Guandalini got his degree in Veterinary Medicine in July 1988 from the University of Perugia (“summa cum laude”). Since May 1998 he is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO). He got his PhD in Veterinary Ophthalmology in February 2001. In 2015 he obtained the DIU (Diplome InterUniversitaire ) in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Dijon. He was the Chairman of the Reevaluation Committee (2001-2010) of the ECVO and until 2015 he was a Member of this Committee. He is a Member of the HED (Hereditary Eye Diseases) committee of the ECVO and Chief of the Italian Panel of the ECVO Diplomates. Since 1992 until 2007 he was a member of the Board of Regents of the SOVI (Italian Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology) and President in 2001-2004. Adjunct Professor in Veterinary Ophthalmology at the Specialty School in Medicine and Surgery of the horse of the University of Teramo.
Since 1997 until now he is speaker, instructor and course Director at the annual Ophthalmology course of SOVI-SCIVAC-ESVPS. He was Member of the local organizing Committee of the ECVO/ESVO/ISVO/SOVI meeting in Genova (2007).
He is author and co-author of several scientific papers published in National and International journals. He was a speaker in a large number of National and International meetings.

In 2000 honored “Hlavka awards” for the best textbook in 2000, co-author of textbook “Dog’s and cat’s diseases”, chapter “Eye diseases”. Laureate of UralSAWA diploma for quantum to development Russian postgraduate programs. Invited speaker of WSAVA/FECAVA/National meetings/ congresses in Czech, Slovakia, France, Poland, Russia, Cyprus. Chief of Czech committee of hereditary diseases in dogs and cats. 2002 – present: member of examination committee of Czech Veterinary Chamber – panelist of hereditary eye diseases. Author of 4 books and more than 40 articles.
